Trademarks in Domain Names

Many corporations refuse to allow their brands to be used in domain names to avoid negative representation of their company and illegal activities such as phishing. Below is a list of companies which we will not allow to be included in domain name registration.

  • 3M
  • AOL
  • Apple
  • Ebay
  • Facebook
  • Google
  • Habbo
  • Hotmail
  • Microsoft
  • Nike
  • P90X
  • Paypal
  • Ralph Lauren
  • Runescape
  • Ugg
  • Walmart
  • Yahoo

This is an incomplete list, and additional brand names and trademarks may be prohibited.

Additionally, any type of official banking site will not be allowed due to issues with phishing scams. Below are a list of examples that should be avoided when registering a new domain:

When Choosing Your Domain Name

Please use your best judgment when registering a domain name. While a trademarked company may not be listed above, it is important to be proactive and make sure you are not trying to imitate or commentate on a public entity. This issue can easily result in a DMCA complaint which will in turn require that we revoke your domain registration. While the content of a page can always be changed in the case of a DMCA complaint, the only way to resolve an issue with a domain name which violates our terms of service is to pay for the registration of a new domain.
